Seven shovels stand in fresh dirt in front of a "Coming Soon" banner, balancing white My Place hard hats on top.

Breaking ground in beautiful Vancouver, Wash.

About a dozen people watch an off-camera speaker surrounded by fresh dirt at the groundbreaking ceremony in Vancouver, Washington.

With every new My Place Hotel comes an opportunity to learn about the culture and values of the communities where we operate. Maybe it’s the stunning scenery that surrounds the growing community or maybe it’s community’s exuberant personalities, but our trip to Vancouver for the groundbreaking of Washington’s fourth My Place Hotel on March 10, 2020 was like no other.

Whether you’re taking in scenic views of the Columbia River, simply taking a trip to metropolitan Portland, or heading north to the Cascades or Seattle, chances are you’ve passed through the enchanting city of Vancouver which lies directly north of the Washington-Oregon border.

While often confused with the synonymous British Columbian city which lies 300 miles directly north, Vancouver stands in a league of its own with an atmosphere that is alive as the surroundings are green.

With time to explore the Vancouver and the Greater Portland-Vancouver Metropolitan area the moment they arrived, the My Place HQ team took every opportunity they could to take in the lush scenery that has made the Pacific Northwest so famous. Even the interstate boasts beautiful views of iconic destinations like the Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls.

With the groundbreaking fast approaching, the My Place HQ Team joined Pacific NW Vancouver, LLC.’s Joe Dinger on-site of the future My Place Hotel at 8300 NE Vancouver Mall Loop Rd.

With a sublime proximity to the Vancouver Mall and a great variety of local dining and retail establishments, it was clear that the future hotel will have high visibility in its market, providing great value to the area’s unique base of visitors.

Soon the ceremony commenced where attendees had the pleasure of hearing from John McDonagh, CEO of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce who had many inspiring words to share about the prospect of My Place making its debut in the diverse and growing community of Vancouver.

John McDonagh

“Welcoming new businesses to the community at groundbreakings is one of the most rewarding aspects of our job at the Chamber of Commerce. That reward is multiplied many times over when the company we are welcoming value the business community relationships to the extent My Place does. It was clear from the moment we met that My Place is not only erecting a hotel in Vancouver but they are joining the business community.”

Attendees also heard from Ty Stober, Councilman of the City of Vancouver, owner Joe Dinger, and Teresa L. Bruml, Manager of the City of Vancouver’s Economic Development Division. The team was also joined by Callum Auer, Commercial Real Estate Manager of First Interstate Bank, Mitch Misik, Project Superintendent of Legacy Builders, and Janet Kenefsky, VP of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, for the ceremonial earth turning.

Moved by the prospect of becoming a part of the Vancouver community, we were elated to break ground alongside our new friends and partners.

We spent the rest of the afternoon sharing smiles and well wishes with the small crowd who had gathered to celebrate the occasion with us.

On behalf of the entire My Place HQ Team, we’d like to offer a sincere ‘thank you’ to the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, City of Vancouver, Joe Dinger, and the community of Vancouver for the wonderful welcome to the area. We can’t wait to return.
