Large group ready to cut a red ribbon outside the hotel entrance in Tucson, Arizona.

Welcome to Tucson! The Old Pueblo celebrates its first My Place Hotel

TUCSON, AZ – December 14, 2023 – There was tremendous cause for celebration as a group of 50+ came together to admire and commemorate the opening of Tucson’s first My Place Hotel last week. Attendees included individuals from My Place Corporate, Opwest Partners (ownership), CooperWynn Capital (ownership), Guard Hospitality (hotel management), Legacy Builders, the Tucson Metro Chamber of Commerce, Visit Tucson and more.

While the Arizona weather outside was beautiful, the action heated up inside as guests excitedly toured the 86-room Generation 2 style property. Their My Place Passports were stamped at the grab-and-go My Store, the onsite laundry facility, and four different guest room types, all equipped with a full-sized kitchen and plush, pillow-top beds. As they completed their journey, attendants deposited their passports for a chance at free night stays, My Place-exclusive merchandise, and more!

Once it was time to cut the ribbon, enthusiastic remarks were given by the Tucson Metro Chamber of Commerce, Visit Tucson, My Place Hotels Corporate, and Opwest Partners. The common threads amongst all speakers were excitement, gratitude and anticipation. Everyone agreed this My Place property fills a large gap within The Landing, a 65-acre mixed-use development project that currently houses no other hotels. The new My Place is also adjacent to the Tucson Spectrum outdoor mall and close to Tucson Airport and Downtown Tucson.

"This part of town is a little more under-resourced in terms of hotel rooms, so what's really cool about this spot is that it has proximity to Downtown Tucson, the Kino sports facilities, and it also meets a need where there's just less hotel rooms."-Zach Yentzer, Vice President of Business Advocacy with the Tucson Metro Chamber of Commerce

As Ryan Rivett, President/CEO of My Place Hotels, and Tyler Kent, President at Opwest Partners, spoke to the group, the mutual admiration was clear surrounding the partnership between the entities, alongside CooperWynn Capital, that helped bring this project from a vision to a reality.

"Thank you to My Place Hotels of America for your trust in our ownership group, and believing in our sponsorships to deliver on our commitments. We look forward to many more successful hotels with you."

KGUN 9, a local television station in Tucson, stopped by to get in on the excitement as they reported on the fact that the south side of Tucson is lacking in hotel rooms, therefore making it difficult for local businesses and other attractions to capitalize on the heavy tourism, especially during the winter months. Take a look here at what they had to say about the impact this new hotel could have on the area.

This property, which is being managed by Guard Hospitality, is the third My Place located in Arizona, but the first in Tucson. The second Tucson location will be opening its doors in 2024 on the north side of the city. My Place looks forward to the continued growth in Arizona and nationwide as they open their 70th property this month, with much more on the horizon!
